RAIN OR SHINE ! DIG FOR YOUR OWN CRYSTALS AT THE HOGG MINE ! Updated May 09 , 2008 - : We offer several locations to dig for quartz crystals , star rose quartz, tourmaline , aquamarine and more. We have dig sites in lagrange , Georgia at the hogg mine ONLY ,. Since I appeared on the Travel Channel Cash and treasures show digging Jackson's Crossroads Amethyst , I have been swamped with requests about where to go to dig crystals in Georgia . I closed and then sold the jxr amethyst mine and dont have any information about it ( see link below if you want to buy jxr amethyst crystals or cut stones ) . I still have digs from time to time at my other places . most frequently in Lagrange , Georgia at the Hogg mine . This is the page to bookmark to find out about upcoming crystal digs . Please dont call asking about the digs and especially dont call about Jackson's Crossroads amethyst or any of the other locations ! I check my mail several times a day and always ,always, always answer each and every email . Recently a fellow brought his daughter out to do some digging . It was her first time , and she found a super nice facet grade piece of aquamarine . This was super blue and eyeclean faceting material After this piece is cut and faceted , it will make for super nice earrings ! Special thanks goes to J. Be sure to keep a close eye on this website for any changes . June 07,2008 with Trip Leader Bill Mitcham. June 14th : we will be closed for June 14th for annual staff member safety training but will be announcing additional dates for June & July soon . New policy : We will try to have a fieldtrip to the hogg mine the first Saturday of every month . We will also announce other dates as we find that we can staff them . We are open on SATURDAYS only . From time to time I do post trips in the middle of the week . The meeting time is 8:45 a.m. "only" . If you cant get there at that time , please schedule a trip when you can . We meet at the store and at that time you are prepared for your adventure . We get you to sign a release and we collect the entry fee. Your given a safety lecture concerning collecting and then your told what can be found in which areas . We then convoy to the mine . For these reasons , if you can not get there at the store at 9 a.m , You will have missed the group orientation concerning safety and the paper work and information about collecting , and you will not be allowed to attend the fieldtrip . . You can see some of what was found in December at this link : CLICK HERE . This dig is for the Hogg mine on the dates announced on this page only . This will be for tourmaline crystals , star rose quartz , and aquamarine beryl crystals . The price for this is $35 for each adult but kids accompanied by a paying adult that are under 18 are free. The dig is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ( we may call it a day at 4 pm if it is above 96 degrees or below 39 degrees or raining ). We do have a porta-potty at the site , but no running water or electricity . Pets on leashes are okay as long as they dont bite . You will be shown samples of what you are looking for , if you need to see a sample just ask . We also give limited instruction on what to look for and how . Your regular everyday car will do just fine for getting you to the mine . Just meet at the store at 8:45 a.m and we will leave at 9 a.m. Sharp . You can pay and turn in your releases at the time we meet at the store ( advance pay or registration not required ) Please dont call me about this dig . It will be helpfull if you can bring a printed and completed release , but we will have some here if you cant print it yourself . The faster we get the releases done the quicker we can get to digging , so please try to bring your completed release .
the meeting place is Smiths Corner Store 1231 Bartley Road Lagrange , Georgia 30241 . you can CLICK HERE for a map. If you are late , you will have missed the group that has to travel to the digging area & you will not be allowed to enter late ( we will flea the scene at 9 a.m. ) If you get there early and ask the folks in the store about the dig , they may not know anything about it and may tell you that there is no dig . It is really simple ! Just show up at the store at 9 a.m. on the days the digs are scheduled. If you see a dig advertised here , it will happen ( rain or shine ) . No need to call or email to ask " is the dig still on ? " . The answer is always YES the dig is on ~ But just to be sure it wouldnt hurt to check the website the morning of the dig. IT WILL NOT DO YOU ANY GOOD TO GO TO THE STORE TO DIG IF I AM NOT THERE ON A REGULAR SCHEDULED DIG . Dont waste your time going to the store other than the dates that I have digs scheduled , as the folks at the store will not be able to help you. If you stay at a hotel , I recommend the days inn , 2 miles from the dig . It is surprisingly nice and clean . We dont provide or rent tools . You can bring a cooler with drinks and food if you wish . Donnies Corner store has breakfast biscuits and tables to dine-in . Donnies also has a good lunch of pizza and bar-b-q . At only 1 mile from the mine , this is truly an oasis in the desert ! Please show our appreciation of being able to use Donnies Corner Store as out meeting place , and grab a drink or snack while you are visiting . DONNIES CORNER STORE now sells tools and has gloves , safety glasses , hammers , screens , potatoe rakes and other tools to scratch and dig with , and even buckets too ! .
